Rising Sun Colliery Branch to Hartley Main Colliery Railway

The Rising Sun Bridge stands at the top of a fierce 1 in 40 gradient, before trains make their way back to Middle Engine Lane Station. However, it was originally built to allow the Rising Sun Colliery Branch to cross the Hartley Main Colliery Railway.

These three views show the bridge and its approaches on the 27th August 1964. Capturing 65809, 65812, and 65878 moving empties up to Rising Sun and returning with loaded hoppers destined for the staiths at Percy Main.
