Our railway runs North - South, designed to carry coal down to the Tyne. Our Southern most station is Percy Main, it is built on the site of the former Blyth & Tyne locomotive work, running sheds and passenger station.
In 1841 passenger services commenced between Seghill and Percy Main, this early terminus was swept away when the B & T built its new station and got permission for its new works in 1854, opening in June 1855.
The works was used to build, maintain and store the Blyth and Tyne locos until they were taken over by the NER in 1874, when loco work was transferred to Gateshead.
Percy Main shed, then became a running shed, becoming British rail shed 52E, the shed normally housed ex NER J 27 locos in its later years. The shed closed in February 1966.
