Flagship of the NTSR

Consett A5 is the flagship locomotive of the North Tyneside Steam Railway.

She was built to Robert Stephensons, long boiler design, by Kitsons & Co in 1885, works number 2509. Spending its working life between Chopwell, Derwenthaugh, and Consett.

She was preserved from Derwenthaugh where it finished its working life, before leading a nomadic existence. Firstly being preserved at Marley Hill, now home to the Tanfield Railway, before moving to the Monkwearmouth station project, where it came under the wing of the association. Finally, she moved to Middle Engine Lane where she returned to steam in 1986.

In the following photos, she can be seen during a 'mishap' at Derwenthaugh. On shed and later in preservation at Marley Hill.
