Work on 401s drain cocks

It was highlighted in an earlier post that 401 had received attention to its drain cocks. As can be seen in a video posted on Sunday repair plan A hasn't fully worked and the cocks need more attention. Today whilst the loco was in steam the RHS leading drain cock, which was seen to emit steam from around the valve spindle and by far the worst of the four, was removed. After investigation, it was discovered that the washers and nuts used on the valve were inoperative and the valve was then loose. Metal was removed (as can be seen in the photo) to extend the square of the shaft and to allow the washers further grip onto the shaft, this then allowed the cock to sit at home properly in the valve body
