401 maintenance

Tom, Michael and Steve were in this evening to do some fettling on 401 before Winter Warmer services this weekend. First job was to clean out the smokebox and remove the plates around the blast pipe in order to re-tighten, and fit with split washers, the blastpipe bases nuts and bolts that had unfortunately worked slightly loose

Michael has continued with re-pinning the locos drain cocks assembly. In one of the previous maintenance posts on 401 it was shown that a new pin had been turned for the control rod that spans from the drivers handle to the drain cocks assembly. The one pictured is the other end of that rod, fitted with a newly turned pin
