The clean up, preparation and priming of more locomotive frame components has been the focus of several volunteers this week. A handful of the group working on 69 have been needle gunning, wire wheeling and priming the driver's side running board angle. As well as this, the ever so important technique required for painting a locomotive has been taught to volunteers with the driver's side front wheel getting its first coat of primer.
Jack needle gunning what is the inside faces of the angle to remove any loose - and hard to remove - rust.
The second stage of metal prep - Jack begins to wire wheel the internal faces with an angle grinder and wire wheel cup attachment.
Aadil and Adam carry on the needle gunning process along the length of the angle, while Jack follows behind wire wheeling.
A close-up shows minimal rust is left over.
Now moved inside the workshop, the angle was placed on trestles to then be primed. Davey came to inspect the lads' handy work - safe to say he was somewhat impressed.
Aadil begins priming the two internal faces of the angle.
A recently primed angle.
Aadil applies the second coat of red oxide primer. The other external faces will be prepped at a later date.
The front wheel set receives some attention with Aadil beginning to apply the first coat of primer.
Cameron takes over the brush to touch up some areas whilst Aadil is required elsewhere in the workshop.
A finished front wheel.
A look at the internal side.
