Handrail Construction

This week, Michael has been constructing the handrails for NCB No.69's cab. He began the process by drilling a hole into one end of the handrail, matching the minimum diameter of the tapered hole on the handrail bracket. Next, he applied a cold bluing compound to the handrail end to prevent future rusting.

Michael begins drilling the hole for the taper pin.

The hole drilled and prepped for cold bluing.

With the cold bluing compound applied, the wait begins for the metal to blue.

A tapered reamer was then used to taper the drilled hole to fit the handrail bracket.

Finally, he hammered a taper pin to securely connect the handrail and the bracket.
