Volunteers Michael, Carl and Steve have been tacklING the removal of Ashington No.5s ashpan in situ. Here Michael is removing one of the cotter pins that holds the ashpan to the foundation ring |
Ashpan free of the firebox |
After cutting some parts out the ashpan could drop down and be dragged out from underneath. Current plan is to design and build a brand new one and scrap this one |
Over on the cosmetic side of things Norman has made good progress with needle gunning and priming the RHS frames |
The reverser quadrant has also been needle gunned and primed, as well as the two notched bars (on the right in the photo) which fit to the quadrant and hold the reverser lever in place between them |
