Coal Stage Construction - Early Days....

Alongside train services today a team of volunteers have begun the construction of the coal stage, this is being built to prevent coal contamination and to ease loading, we will be using sleepers and old boiler tubes from Ashington No.5

First task was to clean up the concrete pad where a lot of coal was sat. Some old fencing and a letter holder from storage were dragged out to sieve through the coal to extract the good lumps from the mountain of coal dust, the old pad is the former substation from the Metro Test Track which makes a good foundation.

Michael, Joe and Paul set to work digging the trench to explore the ground

Michael D and Michael W begin drilling the first hole for the old tubes to be mounted in, and then sleepers can be applied
