401 rods removal

George & John remove the nuts on the RHS side rod bearing cap
Bearing cap
Removing all the old grease from inside the bearing

George screws on the bearing puller...

...wound up tightly...

...and out it comes

After successfully removing the bearing, the cap was placed back on with the nuts wound up hand tight so fitters could continue on the other side

The pedestrian truck is used to lift the LHS side rod slightly, this relieves any pressure on the ball bearings whilst the knuckle joint is disconnected

Michael removes the nut in the knuckle joint, separating the two side rods

The smaller side of the side rod is slowly lowered down

The bigger end slides off the trunion

Work carries on over on the RHS with the knuckle joint being dismantled

Same process again, the smaller end is lowered to the ground first, keeping the larger end on the trunion

The expansion link is disconnected from the return crank rod on the LHS
