As part of our up coming Victor & Vulcan reunion gala. We will be demonstrating the once common practise of gravitating the brake van at Percy Main.
The gradients of our line allow us to carry this out, saving time on shunting. The van is left on the main line and the rest of the train is stabled in the loop line. When all of the points have been set correctly, the brake is taken off the van and it is allowed to run down to the shunting neck under gravity. The engine then runs around, propels the train back on to the van, and is ready to depart North towards Middle Engine Lane. This will take place on some of our freight trains during the weekend.
