401 update

Roller update

Some photos from last week of work on the roller, here Tom is cleaning up the crosshead prior to shotblasting

Work on the museum lights

Council workers have returned to the museum now to finish installing new lights and fixtures

Further work on 401

Bits and pieces have started to be re-fitted to 401 whilst work continues on its repaint, visible here is one of the steam pipe cladding covers, lubricator and this side's water tank injector inlet/shut off valve

On the other side the other steam pipe cover has also been fitted, injector inlet, and vacuum exhaust pipes. Visible in the cab is the manifold which has been re-fitted along with other various fittings and pipework. Rob has got another wheel in undercoat and begins clearing the last bits of dirt on the leading wheel

Coal hopper work

An update on the work that John has been doing on one of the coal hopper wagons, here a section of rotten plate has been successfully cut out, the new metal to replace it arrived yesterday

Work on the steam roller

Further dismantling of the roller has taken place since Sunday in preparation for the tender and back rolls to be removed to allow the boiler inspector full access to the boilers backhead

A few weeks ago we took delivery of a steam roller which is privately owned by one of our volunteers

After being successfully unloaded the tractor was used to shunt the roller about
